The Victorian Woodworkers Association (VWA) is currently taking member applications for its annually awarded Vic Wood Scholarship. The scholarship honours the contribution of the VWA’s inaugural president who was also a foundation member. Vic Wood had a long career as an educator and mentor to many, and in 2012 received an OAM for his contribution to the craft community.

The scholarship aims to promote excellence in woodwork and foster inclusive, supportive woodworking networks. Each year, one VWA member is awarded funding to undertake a woodworking course or educational opportunity that supports an emerging fine woodworker and encourages the sharing and development of skills within the broader woodworking community.

This year's Scholarship is valued at $2,800 which includes sn $800 donation from the Eversley Group. The scholarship is open to VWA members across Australia.

Past recipients include Hannah Cheetham, NSW who used her scholarship to undertake a short intensive Japanese joinery class in 2024 by Hiroshi Yamaguchi of Koitoya, ACT. In 2024, Melbourne maker Lauren Henderson used the grant to fund a traditional joinery course undertaken in Kyoto, Japan. Last year’s winner was Ben Adams who works as a furniture maker and toolmaker from his Sunshine Coast studio.
