This August in 2014 Melbourne and Sydney will be alive with events for those interested in design, art, and crafting things.
MELBOURNE:
Craft Cubed August 1–31
Now in its fifth year, Craft Cubed is Australia’s only festival dedicated to all things handmade. The festival has quickly developed into a premier event on Melbourne’s cultural calendar with a huge selection of opportunities available to craft makers and lovers alike. With new partner Federation Square providing a festival hub, the event is poised to become even bigger this year. In the past the festival has included over 100 satellite events throughout the CBD and regional Victoria, from markets to installations, seminars, workshops and open studios.
Included events are:
Lost Trades Day Sunday August 3
Lost Trades springs from the original festival earlier in March this year in Kyneton which aimed to showcase traditional handcrafts, rare and unusual trades, as well as putting a spotlight on the living people who still hold these skills.
Lost Trades at Craft Cubed is a specially curated, interactive day of demonstrations by some of the stars of the bigger Lost Trades Fair. This is a special opportunity to see old timers and skilled workers forging their trades live. In particular, toolmakers HNT Gordon and Colen Clenton will attend to promote the ‘art of handmade’.
Atrium Table Top August 3–8
Craft Victoria has also curated a six day 'table top' program of activities at Fed Square that will feature various workshops and demonstrations.
Craft & Design as a Career Conference will also run on August 7.

This year's exhibition asked designers to share their thought processes in developing ideas, designs and products - from a clean slate!
