Symbiosis 2025 is the title of Studio Woodworkers Australia’s symposium that will take place 7–8 November this year. This year’s theme reinforces the benefits of exchanging ideas and learning from the experience of others.

Studio Woodworkers Australia (SWA) is an association of makers of fine furniture, art, sculpture and objects who predominantly use wood. It is a professional community which celebrates fine craftsmanship, studio practice and personal achievement.

The symposium is a rare opportunity for woodworkers to gain exposure to bold ideas, inspiration and advice, and a chance to engage with like-minded fine woodworking exponents. Networking opens the door to future support and collaboration opportunities.

Day 1 of the program features presentations from high profile designers and makers who will cover a host of topics, including:

  • Collaboration and business growth
  • Environmental concerns in craft and design
  • Individual work and perspectives in a forum setting

Speakers include Peter Walker, Paul Haar, Rhys Jones, Adam Markowitz, Evan Dunstone, Gray Hawk, Andrew Carvolth

Day 2 offers workshop and behind-the-scenes visits, including:

  • Floor talks from exhibiting makers in the Jam Factory Collect space
  • A guided tour of the Jam Factory’s world-class facilities
  • Workshop visits to Mixed Goods and Gray Hawk Design

The symposium takes place at Jam Factory in Adelaide and includes lunches and transport to off-site workshops.

A two-day pass is exceptional value at $330 (or $255 for members). One day passes are also available. A following-on workshop with Ross Annels and a Barossa Valley tour are also planned.
