The table is made completely our of solid timber with no laminated joins at all. The table's two legs are solid weighing around 40kgs. There are two types of joins on this unit, a pegged mortise holding the foot rail in and dovetail joints holding the under table supports in place. This is a VCE project and the table itself scored 100/100.
As camphor laurel is not commercially sold, I had to have some delivered especially for this project all the way from Fab Slabs up in Queensland and they were more than happy to deliver it for me to Geelong.
With the help of my teacher and a few family friends i ended up producing this fine piece of furniture. Sanded to a minimum of 600 grit and three coats of Danish oil with meticulous polishing between coats the tabletop gives it a deep shine. It has been entered in several woodworking shows and has won the attention of many people across Geelong.
