Family traditions can be a powerful driver. When this Japanese craftswoman’s father passed away, she had to decide what to do with the workshop with regard to not breaking a long family tradition.

The fine cedar bento boxes now crafted by Hakata Bentwood Tamaki are a study in longevity that builds on a 400 year long family tradition using 200 year old cedar and cherry bark.

For this maker the process and even smell of the wood is meditative and calming. The Hakata Bentwood Tamaki workshop is located in Fukuoka City, Japan.
