Exposing a complex framing joint in a disassembled housing structure is the starting point of this video. From that discovery we’re taken on a step-by-step journey as Japanese carpenter Dylan Iwakuni expertly recreates the joint.

For another joinery fix from Dylan Iwakuni continue on to this video which takes us through the making of kane sugi, roughly translated as a combination mitre pinned bridle joint.

The third video in this selection shows Tak Yoshino shaping the back of one of his Zen chairs. ‘You need to create shadows or you won’t know where you’re shaving’, is the first of many insights given in this short video also made by Dylan Iwakuni.
