Recently at least one slab milling operation in Victoria was efficiently turning out some highly usable sections of messmate (Eucalpytus obliqua) as shown above, as well as the slabs of an exotic species shown below.

The video at this link shows how Logosol's M8 chainsaw mill coupled with an Stihl MS61 made easy work of converting messmate, a hard eucalypt, into fence rails. In fact most of us could see the figured sections of wood shown at the end of the video working their way into higher end projects. With a slabbing rig like this all that's left to do is dream of what you could make with all that wood.
