Bodhi Oliver, Wine Cabinet (Student Awards 2019)

I have constructed a wine cabinet with Tasmanian oak and jarrah wood. The cabinet's main purpose is to hold collections of wine and accompanying accessories. The contrast of Tasmanian oak and jarrah contributes to an overall aesthetic appeal. I have crafted this cabinet with tapered legs and curved top handles to appeal with an overall elegant style. Additionally, there is a collection of inlays presented on the top piece with three racing style stripes of jarrah down the middle. There is a single drawer featuring dovetail joinery and a black velvet base. There are two doors on each side of the cabinet that cover shelving compartments for a multitude of wine/liquor to be held. Furthermore, a modernised feature wine rack with diagonal pieces is presented in the centre of the cabinet underneath the drawer. My project has been finished with nitrocellulose lacquer and burnishing oil to create a very smooth outcome. Year 12, Knox Grammar School, NSW. Teacher: John Parker
