Nick Pedulla, Walnut & Brass Record Cabinet (Furniture)

This piece was designed to make a statement. To be an indulgent use of two beautifully combined materials, while also achieving the functional duty of housing a record player, amplifier and speakers, all of which have important sentimental significance to my client. As a musician myself, I understand the power of music and I not only wanted this piece to look beautiful through the walnut and brass, but I also wanted the records themselves to be part of the overall aesthetics, after all, records are artworks that deserve to be shown off. One of the most difficult parts about this piece was achieving a perfect, continuous grain match on the top and across the lid. It was an important feature that the lid, when closed, blends back into its natural state. This was carried out through a carefully thought out process of gluing up the boards, then cutting them down, then gluing them again, taking off the minimal amount of material as possible so not to disrupt the flow of the grain.
