Kaspian Kan, Thanks Hipparchus (TABLES, CHAIRS, DESKS 2021 )

Thanks Hipparchus is a small table designed to invite intimate connection over a shared meal, with an easily maneuvered shape for multifunctional use of small living spaces. Named for the trigonometry required in it’s design, the piece evolved through naive daydreams, experiments in joinery, and exploration of the diversity of a small stack of kauri. The leg structure is composed of three identical sets of half-lapped assemblies which are notched to cross past each other in the centre, and meet at the top, with rotational symmetry. This symmetry is juxtaposed with the irregular pattern of pieces that make up the heptagonal top. The continuity of a single material, and the opposing beveled facets on both the legs and top, marry the elements of the piece.
