Grace Gilbert, Tasmanian Blackwood Dressing Table (Student Awards 2018)

Made during 2018 HSC year. Tasmanian blackwood was used for the piece entirely. The piece is 1200 x 600 x 740mm high. I turned the legs and used dovetail, rebate and mortise and tenon joints in the carcase. The idea for the doors was developed from the style of a roll top desk and I used tambours that slide within a routed channel to open and close. The main purpose was to incorporate methods I enjoyed as well as styles I liked to create a sophisticated piece of furniture which would be functionally efficient.
