Josh Stevens, Split Stool (Furniture)

The Split stool started out as a challenge to myself to design a modern stool that was predominantly made on the wood lathe. The legs for the stool were cut into 120 degree segments, glued with a paper joint, turned as a straight taper, split apart and then individually mounted back onto the lathe for the tenon to be turned and the foot to be slightly rounded. The seat itself has a conical underside to match the straight lines and angles of the legs. This piece was made from American ash and finished with Livos Kunos oil. I'm continuing to explore some of these details in a shorter version of this stool.
