Dean Thomson , Recycled timber tool chest (CHESTS, CABINETS, SHELVING 2021)

I needed another tool chest and decided to set myself the challenge of making it from all recycled materials.I had been collecting and recycling timber for quite a while so there was a good supply to choose from. The main box construction is Australian cedar from an old wardrobe built around 1880 that was damaged beyond repair.Huon pine from another broken wardrobe is used for the internal lining and dovetailed drawers. In the center of the drawers there is an alcove which is a nod to the one in the Studley cabinet which holds his Stanley no.1 plane. In this cabinet it uses a Stanley 103 as a locking mechanism, which when removed allows this section to slide out, revealing several hidden compartments. The alcove is made from Leichhardt sawmill offcuts , also Gidgee from old fenceposts.Other timbers include Tas Oak, Blackwood and Cheese wood. In the end the only new materials were four small brass hinges .
