Jack Howard, Reclaimed Drawers (CHESTS, CABINETS, SHELVING 2021)

Burl Myrtle Chest of Drawers The burl myrtle chest of drawers is made using salvaged myrtle veneer that has originated from the Gunns era of the Tasmanian forestry industry. These pieces of veneer were sourced through a private sale off a local Tasmanian. The veneers were hidden away at the back of his workshop under a pile of dust and other materials. He was at first reluctant to part ways with this special timber, until I told him my plan. I knew as soon as I saw the timber, it deserved to be made into something special and unique like this chest of drawers. The piece of furniture has been designed to pay homage to the stunning timber and is a modern take on a traditional piece of furniture. The piece was hand made in our workshop in Geilston Bay on the Eastern Shore of Hobart. Every detail in this piece has had a lot of thought, right down to the mitered edges on every single join.
