Blake Weber, Mountainscape Cabinet (WORLD 2021)

Country
United States

An absolute labor of love. I’m obsessed with mountains, and I spend as much time as I can in the Sierra Nevada every year backpacking or camping with my family. My wife is a painter, and originally painted the image that inspired the marquetry design for this piece. There is a video that shows the entire build process on my YouTube channel The Weber Woodshop. I spent 6 months and more than 300 hours building TWO of these identical cabinets. One is for me to keep, the other was recently sold and shipped to a customer in Australia. The primary species is Eucalyptus, and the interior is lined with Cypress, with Jatoba, Canarywood, Mahogany and Curly Maple for the marquetry veneer. The marquetry wraps all the way around the curved front, sides and back of the piece. The splayed legs make it very stable, even with the door open. I’ve incorporated a hidden latch, which can be opened with a magnetic key. The tempered glass shelf is adjustable for height.
