John Antoun, Hall Table (Student Awards 2018)

For my Year 12 Timber Major Project, I intended to design and construct an innovative hall table that is both aesthetically pleasing and completely functional in order to benefit the house. It is a Hall Table that is functional and provides a great amount of storage. The construction behind this project was a pretty long process, involving bending a great amount of timber through the use of a template, that I needed to create along with a steam bender to ultimately shape and mould the timber. Throughout the construction of this hall table various skills and techniques were required, this included a range of timber joints including, rebate, crossed half lap, domino etc, so that it enables for a steady and strong outcome. For this project, I have chosen Victorian ash coupled with American walnut to construct and design the hall table. This is because Victorian ash is nice and light whilst American walnut is nice a dark which really work together, creating an aesthetically pleasing result. Year 12, De la Salle Ashfield, NSW.
