joey chalk , Exo stand (WORLD 2021)

Country
New Zealand

I was inspired by an exploded machine drawing, and wanted to strip back all unnecessary parts of a traditional dresser, so the viewer could see trough and into the piece. the result is a piece that has no real front or back , where the drawers can be installed and accessed from both sides. the Exo stand could be pushed up to a wall or placed more centrally in a room as a kind of divider center piece. Made from quarter and rift sawn Rimu with Walnut accent, I used versions of finger, saddle, mortise and tenon joinery to enhance the open exposed feel of the piece.
