Ethan Edwards, Entertainment Unit (Student Awards 2018)

With this project I aimed to achieve a modern multi-functional use cabinet. This will be a focal piece in any living space and features an intriguing new look design that showcases high quality materials and elaborate techniques and skills. I grasped my motivation for creating this piece from a combination of famous woodworking pieces featured recently on different forms of social media. I aimed to present a wide range of challenging techniques throughout my project to emphasise the skill required. Ultimately this was challenging and I had to come up with various compromises along the way, especially with regard to the joinery and depth of the carcase. My project I believe has many focal points with the laminated, shaped leg framework, curved finger joint corner pieces and the veneered door panel and back panel. As well as the solid timber drawer front panels with the grain running across the fronts, the beauty of natural timbers is emphasised. Year 12, Freshwater Senior Campus. Teacher: Ben Percy
