Nick Pedulla, End Grain Chevron Dresser (Furniture)

The aim behind this piece was to use a simple, affordable timber and use it in such a way that the overall design is nothing but eye catching. The straight grain from quarter sawn Tasmanian Oak is exactly what I was after, particularly because of its end grain which consists of deep, contrasting colours which generally run vertically from face to face. By cutting a slight angle along the long edges of the Tassie Oak board, I was able to achieve part of the chevron pattern. By gluing a bunch of these long boards together I was able to create a blank where I could cut a number of the end grain chevron patterns at once, making the process a lot easier. This process allowed me to create a veneer which was then glued to a backing board, then attached to the rest of the face grain Tassie oak drawer fronts, divided by a hand polished piece of brass.
