Josh Gatto, Contemporary Entertainment Unit (Student Awards 2018)

This 2.4m long entertainment unit was custom designed to match the existing furniture at home which was extremely slimline and contemporary in nature. The project is made from a combination of Tasmanian oak and spotted gum and finished with a super matt varnish to match the existing furniture. The project aimed to balance function with form, and resulted in a range of roadblocks when attempting to produce the angled shelves. These were overcome with the creation of a range of custom jigs and the use of a digital angle meter for the table saw to achieve the desired 17.8' angle. The two drawers have a matt black finish to help the project further tie in with existing furniture in the house, and are operating with push-to-open drawer runners.
