Ben Bond, Coffee Table (Student Awards 2018)

I wanted to create a unique coffee table that differed from other designs. My aim was to exceed my limitations and express my skills through a variety of techniques. My coffee table design, altered and modified through multiple sketches and CAD files, reflects a product that appeals to the audience as unique whilst involving multiple features and techniques. My design was developed with aim to develop a product with negative space and curved and rounded faces and edges. Processes I used throughout include 3D printing through CAD files, lamination through timber bending to create my crossover, wood turning to develop my rounded table legs and marquetry through starburst veneering on my table top. Overall, from the outset of my HSC project, I intended to produce a high quality unique product. Upon completion, my final project went beyond my initial expectations in both creativity and quality, resulting in a successful expression of a variety of skills and techniques that allows my piece to blend into a modern living room.
