Mackenzie Holden, Bedside Table (Student Awards 2018)

This project is made from Tasmanian blackwood and birch veneered plywood. The majority of the project is made from Tasmanian blackwood with the veneered plywood being used for the framing inserts on the sides in an effort to save both weight and resources. I used a variety of joints throughout my project including dovetails and mitre joints which made up the frame around the top piece of the project. The use of double tapered legs, chamfered edges and a hidden cove cut drawer handle helped my project to tie in with the existing stylistic features within my house. The overall project dimensions are 600 high, 500 wide and 500 deep. The project helped me to develop skills in areas that I haven’t had the opportunity to improve such as spraying the finish onto my project. I also 3D printed models of my project to help with design and development. The project was completed on the 23/11/2018. Year 11, Central Coast Grammar School. Teachers: Bil Kensey, Paul Buxton.
