Wood that moves…the way you would like it to

David C. Roy has been making wood move the way he wants it to for some 40 years, and his kinetic sculptures create mesmerising 3D geometric effects.

These wall-mounted ‘human powered wooden machines’ move via the controlled release of energy from springs – there are no batteries required for his unplugged woodwork!

In the video above David gives some insight into how he makes of his sculptures and the concepts that stimulate his design ideas. Below he explains how the mechanism for ‘Duality’ is activated.
