In little over a week bump-in will commence for West Australia’s annual celebration of wood, aka the WA Wood Show. From August 7–9, Perth’s Showgrounds Exhibition Centre at Claremont will be a gathering point for displays and demonstrations of tools, timbers and techniques all relating to the various ways of working wood.

Demonstrations range from handling the raw material (as in the portable sawmilling of bush timber) through to its finest uses as seen in dovetailing, marquetry, veneering, turning, carving and boxmaking. The show also hosts a popular workshop for kids to participate in.

On top of that visitors can purchase tools, machinery and timber from a range specialist woodworking suppliers.

The WA Wood Show runs concurrently with the WA Craft Show. ‘There are two massive pavillions’, said show organiser Mareene Aitken of Trueblue Exhibitions. ‘Admission gains entry to both; to left people go to the Wood Show, and to the right into a high quality display of craft materials and techniques. ‘Both shows have their separate identities, however many people find their ideas are stimulated by visiting both’, she said.

The show is open daily from 9:30am – 4:30pm, Fri 7, Sat 8 and Sun 9 August.
