Video: making a NZ kauri audio unit

Comments Comments

Joey Chalk is a professional New Zealand woodworker who makes to commission and also teaches woodwork from his Wellsford workshop. He is also one of three presenters for The Shop Stool podcast.

It’s enjoyable to watch as he makes a stereo/audio unit destined for an Australian client using some large well seasoned boards of New Zealand kauri. There’s a range of machinery and hand tool processes to observe, along with some nice tips on frame and panel joinery, making a curved and veneered door, and how a design sometimes has to be adapted to the constraints of the material in hand.
