Edward Wohl, 40 years a furniture maker in the US, describes his style as somewhere between Scandinavian and Shaker. There are traces of Maloof there as well, all of which makes his work part of the continuum of woodworking style that has developed since the craft revival of the late 20th century.

Edward says he aims for visual simplicity ‘even if the construction is complicated’. Rounded, tactile surfaces and elegantly pared away components are his hallmark, ‘there’s never anywhere on my furniture that you’ll feel something rough’.

Edward and his small team produce a range of cutting boards which make it possible for him to continue making the chairs and rockers he mainly specialises in.

‘I love working on the weekends, I love working at night’, he says. This man is the woodworker many would like to be.

This recent video by Matt Binetti about Edward Wohl is thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Learn more about Edward Wohl at this link.
