Making Now is the defining statement of Sydney Design Week, set to open September 15 and run until 22 September".

“Making Now celebrates the designers, doers and thinkers who are defining the cultural moment in Sydney and across NSW”, says Stephen Todd, Sydney Design Week Creative Director. "As the parameters of ‘design’ expand beyond the concept of the singular genius enshrined by the modernist tradition, SDW2022 explores collaboration and cross-pollination between established and emerging creatives and across disciplines: from industrial and craft production in the product and interior design sectors to graphic, sound, art direction and scenography design. By opening up design to myriad inputs and unexpected outcomes, Making Now sets the scene for the future”.

Exhibitions, events, talks and multi-media experiences are the promise of an extensive program. From September 15, 2022 – 30 April, 2023 New Australian Design will feature at Powerhouse Ultimo. This is an installation of new work by some of Australia’s finest designers and makers, art-directed by designer and creative director Emma Elizabeth of Local Design.

Twenty established and emerging designers working across disciplines including industrial, limited-edition, graphic, sound and spatial design have been invited by Emma Elizabeth to create new work responding to the theme Making Now – marking this moment in time and indicating the way forward in design.

Included are new works by Andrew Simpson, Tom Fereday, Amanda Talbot, Elliat Rich, Luke Storrier, Adam Goodrum, Leon Curtis, DesignByThem, Kenny Yong-Soo-Son, Patryk Koca, bernabeifreeman, Tom Skeehan, Henry Wilson, Sarah Ellison, Marlo Lyda, Alex Fitzpatrick, Ivana Taylor, Tarryn Gill, David Tate, Edward Waring, Olive Gill-Hille and more.
