The Cooroora Institute hosts classes, workshops, and artist residencies in fine crafts at studios located in regenerating rainforest in the Noosa hinterland, Queensland. There are events, courses and concerts that “share the song of the earth through creative practice”.

In 2018 Ross Annels will teach ongoing weekly furniture making classes as well as workshops in hand tool fundamentals, introductory wood machining, woodworking for women, wood bending and chairmaking.

Visiting artists Carol Russel, Jeff Fraser and Gary Field will present another spoon carving workshop, John Van Der Kolk will run a sculptural carving workshop, and US furniture maker Brian Reid will present a masterclass in marquetry and joinery. Sculptor and metalsmith Bill Dorman will return with a metal techniques for furniture and sculpture workshop, and Canadian artist and blacksmith Sandra Dunn will teach Introductory blacksmithing.

Students are invited to join the creative flow in a beautiful place, surrounded by the growing trees that replace the timber, and under the oversight of a skilled artisan and teacher, Ross Annels and the long-term thinking of the mountain, Cooroora. You may learn the meaning of beauty and the slow collaborations of craft between materials and maker.
