Speaking Volumes

Parliament House, in association with DESIGN Canberra, presents Speaking Volumes, featuring works by Chelsea Lemon, Estelle Briedis and Elizabeth Paterson.

As technology changes so does the delivery of information, and now parliamentary proceedings are no longer printed and bound but are purely electronic entities. Excess leather bound volumes of parliamentary proceedings have provided an opportunity for the Parliament House Art Collection to engage with local designers in order to create new works that reinterpret, reuse and recycle these incredibly evocative objects that span almost 120 years of parliamentary reporting.  The designers will explore both the properties of the physical source material as well as the history documented within the volumes.

Speaking Volumes can be viewed in the Marble Foyer, Parliament House, ACT until February 4, 2018.
