On 15th September, Newington College will host its HSC Technology Showcase Exhibition at the Concordia Gallery in Stanmore. The exhibition will bring together the HSC major works of our Industrial Technology Timber and Design & Technology students, showcasing the hard work, craftsmanship and creativity of our Year 12 students.

There will be a wide range of people attending including students, teachers, parents, members of wider school community and local designers and makers. Students have spent the year designing and constructing a bespoke piece of furniture as part of their studies. There is a wide range of projects, from drinks cabinets to desks to entertainment units and hallway consoles. Students have investigated and used a wide range of timber joints and processes to demonstrate their knowledge and skill in furniture construction. A mix of imported and local timbers has been used.

Also on display will be the design work of our Design & Technology students, who have spent their final year working through their chosen design situation and creating exciting prototypes and designs of their solutions and products. Their brief is to select an issue or opportunity that can be addressed through product design. The prototyping on display is the proof of the viability of their designs.

The Technology department are inviting a number of local timber makers, designers and suppliers to the event to help build relationships between the school and the thriving local timber making community and provide an opportunity for local makers to see the high calibre of timber projects that are being produced by some keen young woodworkers.

Engaging with local designers, makers and Industry professionals has always been important to creating real world experiences for our students. This Showcase is an ideal opportunity to engage with the local makers and innovators in the area and display the hard work and dedication of our students.

Come along and join the conversation!

The exhibition is being held on Friday 15th September from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
