Scholarship to study with Michael Fortune in New Zealand

Canadian designer maker Michael Fortune has an international reputation for his contemporary furniture which features in public and private collections and embassies throughout the world. His creativity and technical expertise is legendary – in particular his genius at jigmaking. As a master tutor he is sought after and has taught workshops in Australia and in New Zealand.

In January 2020 Michael Fortune returns to the Centre for Fine Woodworking in Nelson, New Zealand for a six week Artist in Residency & Open Studio Program where he will work on his own new designs as well as mentor a group of students who are developing their own new ideas. The program runs from January 13 to February 21, 2020.

Open Studio Program

The program is open to emerging and established furniture makers/woodworkers and former students who are looking to reach the next level whether that be for professional or personal growth.

Potential attendees must submit a project outline along with their applicatiion. Early expressions of interest are encouraged as places are strictly limited.

Open Studio Scholarship

The Centre for Fine Woodworking is offering a scholarship opportunity to cover the full course fee of NZ$5500 for one participant to attend the six week Open Studio Program. The scholarship is open to New Zealand and international participants.
