Popular Choice Winner 2016

Nathan Jurd

If you, like me, had checked into our Facebook page at 12 noon DST on Jan 27, you would already know who the winner of our Student Awards 2016 Popular Choice was!

Some very strong voting by "likes" occurred and although every entry is a true winner in my eyes, some entries and entrants seemed to garner more shares and tags.

So with a drum roll...I now present the winner! With 1.5k likes, Nathan Jurd’s Architecturally Inspired Study Desk made from New Guinea rosewood and cambria oak truly was a worthy winner. A range of joinery techniques and details such as a leather writing surface, flared legs and handmade drawer handles made this a very special piece.

Congratulations go to Nathan, his teacher Andrew Kenneally, and to his school Corpus Christi Catholic High School, NSW. Nathan’s piece, along with all the other award-winning entries will be featured in the March issue of Wood Review. Prizes for all will also be announced in the March issue.
