Paulownia used in Japanese cabinetry

Comments Comments

This short video gives a wonderful insight into the use of traditional woodworking techniques and tools in a commercial cabinetmaking setup in Japan. It shows the making of a drawer chest from paulownia, a light and straight grained softwood commonly used in Japan for cabinetry. Stacked to dry in the sun for three years and then bleached with lime and ash, the timber is shown machined and handcrafted from bare boards to completed cabinet.
