Juniper

70mm h x 91mm dia

The concept was to test my skills on the lathe by turning a small thin walled bowl from a figured piece of juniper that I purchased at the Timber & Working with Wood Show. A ½ inch bowl gouge was used to turn the shape and a skew chisel was used to put the groove in the base. I left the base on as I liked the contrast between the rough base and the smooth bowl. The wood was sanded with 1200 grit and then a food safe finish was applied. The piece was burnished to enhance the depth of the grain.
