Masterclasses at Wood Dust 23

Four "Masterclasses" will lead into the program of events planned for the 2023 edition of the Wood Dust festival. The classes take place at various workshops throughout Melbourne from May 17 – 20. Other events include the ‘Insiders Dinner’ on Friday May 19, a Q&A style 'Yarn' evening with various makers presented by ABC presenter and woodworker Kate Roffey, weekend 'Wood Worker Games' and a Timber & Tool Marketplace at the Meat Market Craft Centre in North Melbourne. The Masterclasses will be led by North American woodworkers assisted by their local workshop hosts.

'Contemporary Windsor Chairmaking' is a four-day chairmaking workshop led by Aspen Golann assisted by Bern Chandley at Bern’s workshop (shown above) in Northcote, Melbourne.

'Hand Carved Bowls' will be led by Danielle Rose Byrd assisted by Raven Mahon at Raven’s Northcote workshop. In recent years carving has become increasingly popular with Australian woodworkers. Danielle Rose Byrd's work is shown above.

The workshop led by Andy Buck and Carol Russell is called 'Carving Puppets and Articulated Forms' and will allow you to 'take your carving to a subjective space where you can tell stories, express emotion and explore abstract ideas.' Puppet segments by Carol Russell are shown here.

'Design for Woodworking' is a hands-on design workshop in which Vic Tesolin will take participants through the processes and strategies for design.
