Three years’ absence has not dimmed the ardor of the crowds who have annually flocked to the Sunshine Coast, Qld for Australia’s largest woodworking event.

But in 2023, it’s back! The Maleny Wood Expo: From seed to fine furniture is on from April 29 – May 1 at the Maleny Showgrounds, Sunshine Coast, Qld. Expect a festival of fun in the form of demonstrations, workshops, displays, music and food, plus of course The Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize competition.

The Maleny Wood Expo is as much about the source – wood – as it is about woodworking. The use of sustainable wood and weed timbers is promoted and supported with information on Landcare programs and sales of tree seedlings and timber.

Many workshops by notable craftspeople are on offer. You can learn to build a canoe, a cubby or a miling stool; carve a spoon or whittle an animal; cooper a bucket; bend wood or make a bamboo flute.

This year’s Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize is still open for entries, closing March 17. A first prize of $10,000 is on offer and award winners will be announced on April 28, the night before the Expo opens.

Tickets are now on sale and workshops may be booked ahead. Learn more at https://malenywoodexpo.com
