The brief was to create a beautiful and challenging piece for my HSC project using both timber and glass. Traditional joints were used throughout construction. Curves and chamfers in the top, and the bottom rail curve were shaped using a hand plane. Top inlay strings were hand cut and matching rebates created using a string inlay tool. A scratch stock was used to form beading on the lower rail, side panels and back. Knobs were hand turned. To finish the unit, three coats of oil varnish were applied.  A final cut with 5,000 grit sandpaper produced a deep gloss finish.
