Mitchel Alker, Year 11, Bega High School, NSW

Red ironbark, brown barrell, grey crushed velvet, brass hinges/latch

215mm (L) x 120mm (W) x 125mm (H)

This jewellery box was designed and built by me as part of my year 11 IT timber course. The main purpose of the job is for it to be functional for storing moderate amounts of jewellery while also being aesthetically pleasing.

The main box is joined using dovetails (done on a router table with a dovetail jig). All the rebates and other joints were also cut on the router table using various bits and fences. It was finished by hand, as I did not want to risk removing excess material with a sander, and coated with various oils and waxes.
