Orbost Exhibition Centre Wood Design Collection

The Orbost Exhibition Centre (OEC) is proud to present one of the most significant wood design prizes in Australia. The Australian Wood Design Exhibition is now calling for entries from across Australia, particularly artists based in Gippsland, Victoria to exhibit in this show. This exhibition is open to everyone and all artwork entered will be displayed. The OEC encourages entries from artists at all levels, from amateur woodworkers through to experienced artists.

Due to COVID19 the Wood Design Prize was not held in 2021, and the 2020 show was unfortunately very much affected by both the bush fires and Covid shutdowns. The Australian Wood Design Exhibition in 2022 runs from March 26 to July 19.

Since 1997, the OEC has showcased the work of some of the finest woodworkers nationally and has acquired significant pieces from each show to make up the permanent collection on display at the OEC.

The OEC is both a sustainable and purpose built structure, initially funded by state and federal governments plus the Myer Fund and the FRRR philanthropic trusts, the East Gippsland Shire Council and the Orbost Community with materials donated also by local timber mills. It is a regional centre for both visual and performing arts and a retail outlet for regional artists and craftspeople.

The emphasis of the Australian Wood Design Exhibition is to promote a sustainable timber industry. Prize money is generously donated by local business, organisations, and individuals, with volunteers providing the much-needed work to organise this exhibition.

Entry forms and details of conditions will be available on both www.orbostexhibitioncentre.com, at the OEC centre and East Gippsland Art Gallery. OEC encourages all woodworkers to take this opportunity to show and sell work, and to win one of the prizes on offer.
