In the current issue of Wood Review we’re running a story that highlights the rise of the handmade, hailing the groundswell of making activity that’s going on everywhere. From the humble shed to makerspaces, fablabs, tool gyms and hackerspaces, there’s a new craft revival happening, globally it seems.

Where the craft revival of the 70s was a repudiation of modern technology and automation, this new age revisitation is based on networks of communication that have grown up thanks to social media. Whereas digital technology once threatened to wipe out the endeavours of skilled individuals, we’re now seeing makers harness the power of CNC, laser machinery and 3D printers to produce bespoke one-off and limited edition works that would formerly have been totally unviable to produce.

Our story coincides with a new three-part series about to commence on ABC TV this Thursday at 10pm. Bespoke touches on these issues and we’re looking forward to seeing it! The network teaser for this is below, and below that another related video trailer for a film by Morgan Spurlock to be published later this year.
