From Wooded Plains to Wooden Planes

Comments Comments

Handcrafting wooden bodied planes from outback timbers is not exactly a quick process. If you are Terry Gordon aka HNT Gordon & Co it means travelling 100s of kilometres to the source of the fine and often highly figured native timbers he then harvests.

Brought back to his Alstonville, NSW workshop, the next stages of breakdown, kiln drying, sectioning and machining begin. After that it’s another lengthy process of hand shaping the plane body, with much fine tuning and fettling along the way.
These truly are some of the finest handmade tools in the world.
