Harry Williams, Hall Stand With Butterfly Keys (Student Awards 2017)

This piece is a George Nakashima inspired contemporary hall stand. Constructed with American white oak, it is built in three visual sections, a body with three drawers, tapered legs and an inverted live edge top with wenge butterfly keys. The three sections are separated with 12mm spacers turned on the lathe from wenge. These spacers are a play on light as the dark timber gives the impression of shadow, and in turn the sections appear to float. Date of construction: 11/1/2016 – 8/10/2017 Dimensions: 1450mm (length), 400 (depth), 990 (height) Harry Williams, Year 12, Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design, NSW.
