Jackson Camporeale, Fish Tank Cabinet (Student Awards 2018)

The concept for my design was to create an aesthetically pleasing fish tank cabinet that would show off my woodwork skills and give me a chance to learn new processes. The design of this fish tank cabinet was to divide it into two main sections, the lid and the base structure. Inside the bottom cabinet there would be an internal structural frame that would support the fish tank and the surrounding panels that would be attached to it. This internal frame would be cut to smaller dimensions to account for the thickness of my actual timber so that the external measurements of the cabinet stayed within my required measurements. A major part of my design was to incorporate spiral twists. However this idea was not viable due to time constraints, the complexity and the tools are unavailable to me. So instead I came up with an alternative. Something similar but different. My new idea was to create a turned piece that would replace the spiral twist in the housings situated at each end of front face of the tank cabinet. The tank is to be removable for easy use of transport and cleaning purposes. In order to achieve this, the back counter top will be a removable piece that will allow the tank to slide in and out with ease. The lid will also be removable for transportation purposes.
