Sebastian Ilett, Butchers Block (Student Awards 2019)

During my last year at school I chose to design a butchers block. After going to the Eumundi Markets in Queensland I took inspiration from the long butchers blocks that were for sale. Our kitchen is not big enough to have an island bench in the middle and my parents wanted one that was small enough that would fit so I created this butchers block. The dimensions are 800 x 600 x 900mm. The block is made from blackbutt and the frame made from New Guinea rosewood. The block is made using butt joints and the shelves are attached to the legs and frame with domino joints. The block is heavy enough that it just sits on top of the legs and are housed in the corners. Year 12, Trinity Grammar School. Teacher: Ben Treloar
