From the organisers of this year’s Maleny Wood Expo 2018:

Women have always been keen participants in all Wood Expo activities – as exhibitors and stallholders; trainers and trainees; volunteers, entertainers and organisers. This year we welcome workshop presenter Zina Burloiu from Romania. Zina joins the ranks of workshop presenters and Expo favourites Carol Russell and Patt Gregory.

Zina Burloiu is from Romania and is acknowledged there and around the world as the premier exponent of her craft. She is variously known as a traditional Romanian chip carver and spoon maker, a creative decorative artist, and a sculptor who exhibits internationally. Zina’s classes in chip carving are held in the Main Pavilion.

Carol Russell’s popular spoon carving workshops give participants a way to release their creative side while making something practical. The classes are an introduction to using carving tools and getting the feel of working with wood through the making of spoons. Carol covers basic carving techniques as well as design, tool sharpening and whittling techniques. Spoon Carving workshops are held in the SES Shed on the verandah.

Maleny Expo 2105.8

Maleny Wood Expo welcomes back Mullumbimby's Patt Gregory for her fifth year as guest demonstrator. Teaching is her passion, woodwork is her craft and women, mostly, are her students. Let Patt help you arm yourself with the knowledge and skills to navigate your way through the timber racks and tool aisles of timber yards and hardware stores. And she’ll spend her time at Maleny Wood Expo doing just that. Drop by and have a chat with her in the SES Pavilion - and be inspired to get into woodwork!
