There’s something about the work that younger woodworkers do that knocks the socks off the oldies every time. ‘Yes we’re learning’, they seem to say, ‘but chill…we’ll figure out how to make an enormous queen size bed that’s curved and rocks’, literally. ‘We’ll figure out how to not just measure twice and cut, join, sand and finish; but also how to veneer, carve, turn and laser cut. And design things to a brief for function, and for fun.'

Close on 100 entries from students and schools around Australia are an invitation for you to view their work, to enjoy their endeavour, and to feel confident that there is a generation coming on that is thinking about design, tradition and technology. The background to this is the help, support and knowledge offered by their teachers and parents.

All the entries are online here. There are multiple views of each piece and a short description by the maker. We have judges, highly qualified ones, who will award the $7226 worth of prizes that our very generous sponsors have provided.

See here for the breakdown of cash, tools and tuition to be awarded to our top school and student entries.

Award winners will be announced in the next issue of Australian Wood Review.
