Don’t be fooled by the black and white vintage look of this 1940s vocational video. In terms of materials and trade techniques much appears to be the same. Even a reference of how new materials and machining processes are changing the way things are produced holds true.

The video looks at carpentry first, then about halfway through skips to furniture and cabinetmaking. All this is surprisingly familiar. With the onset of CNC machining and 3D printers, patternmaking is probably the most endangered skill referred to. There’s not a woman in sight during the whole video of course…
