Australia’s richest woodworking awards just got richer with the addition of another award generously offered by South Australian Adrian Potter, one of Australia’s best and best known designers and makers.

‘I won’t be able to enter and exhibit anything this time around but I am keen to support this exhibition. It is good for everyone this way!’, said Adrian, whose Ned's Chair was an award winning piece in Studio Furniture 2010.

The George Ingham Prize for the Most Outstanding Chair carries a $1000 cash award and honours one of the most significant figures in the Australian fine woodworking landscape. Adrian studied at the ANU School of Art under George Ingham and with this award pays homage to his influence.

Competency and artistry in the field of chair design and making is widely regarded as one of the pinnacles of fine woodworking. Achieving aesthetic appeal within the constraints of ergonomics, style and economic viability is challenging. The new award is intended to encourage and recognise those who design and make within this field.

In view of this announcement, the deadline for entry to AWR Studio Furniture 2018 will be extended a further two days to June 26, however this will not affect the June 28 date for announcement of shortlisted entrants.

Entrants should note that entry submissions comprise samples of past work. If shortlisted, entrants have until October 16 to complete and deliver their exhibition piece.
