Durable, hard and richly coloured jarrah is the signature wood of West Australia and also of the benches made by Perth-based manufacturers Workbench World.

For over two decades Workbench World have supplied custom-made and kit form workbenches to trade and part-time woodworkers, as well as government and educational institutions. Management of the company has now passed from founder Chris Wilkins to new owner James Shadbolt who is equally passionate about the product.

For James, a workbench is a core tool for woodworkers – it is both an enabler of creativity and it should also be a thing of lasting beauty. As a long-time woodworker with past professional experience as an administrator, James has how found his perfect business niche.

‘Often customers ring thinking our designs are set in stone’, said James, who seems to relish addressing the specific needs and space requirements of part-time and hobbyist woodworkers. ‘They throw the challenges my way’, said James, ‘and it’s an opportunity to look at the designs from all aspects’. Most benches are fitted with Irwin Record and Dawn vices however other hardware can be requested.

What is it that sets their product apart? ‘Honestly it’s about the robustness of the design and that means the construction is solid and strong. They’re built to last and when someone purchases my product they’re going to be happy for years and years to come.’

Benches are shipped from Perth all over Australia, in fact most are sent to the eastern states. For more information phone 0414 011 019 or see www.workbenchworld.com.au
