In 18th century Europe, father and son Abraham and David Roentgen, were German master cabinetmakers of the 18th century. Their complex and elegant designs were combined with mechanical devices which gave unique functionality and undoubted delight to their commissioning owners, and revolutionised traditional furniture at the same time.
An exhibition entitled Extravagant Inventions The Princely Furniture of the Roentgens featured at The New York Metropolitan Museum from October 2012–January, 2013. Hailed as the first comprehensive survey of the Roentgens’ furniture, the exhibition comprised 60 items of furniture and clocks.
